Tragedy in Anambra: Kidnapped Lawmaker Hon. Justice Azuka Found Dead

Onitsha, Anambra State – It is a dark day for the people of Onitsha North Constituency 1 as the body of their representative in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, has been found. His decomposing remains were discovered late last night near the 2nd Niger Bridge by security operatives.

Hon. Azuka was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha. His abduction sent shockwaves across the state, as family, colleagues, and well-wishers held onto hope for his safe return. Tragically, that hope was dashed when his captors, now in police custody, led authorities to the location where they had dumped his body.

The late lawmaker, a member of the Labour Party (LP), had recently regained his mandate through a court ruling that overturned the election victory of his opponent, Hon. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His short-lived tenure was filled with plans to bring change to his constituency, making his murder even more heartbreaking.

This incident is yet another grim reminder of the worsening security situation in Anambra State. Just days before his body was found, gunmen reportedly attempted another kidnapping along Awka Road in Onitsha, firing multiple gunshots to instill fear in the area.

The Anambra State Police Command has yet to release an official statement, but investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, the loss of Hon. Azuka has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, political associates, and constituents. Tributes have begun pouring in, with many describing him as a man dedicated to the service of his people.
