Tinubu Overhauls Leadership At UNIABUJA, UNN, UNIZIK, FUNAAB, UNUYO, FUOYE, FULOKOJA, & AIKUED

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced leadership changes in federal universities, including renaming the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University. The governing council was dissolved and Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi was relieved as Vice-Chancellor. Professor Lar Patricia Manko will serve as Acting VC for six months.

At UNN, Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu was removed as Acting VC ahead of his tenure’s expiration, with Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam appointed as his replacement for six months. Leadership changes also include new Pro-Chancellors at UNN, UNIZIK, Uyo and Alvan Ikoku University of Education.

Key appointments include Senator Lanre Tejuoso as Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo at UNN and Senator Sani Stores at Alvan Ikoku University.

President Tinubu emphasised that these changes aim to improve governance and academic standards.

All appointments take effect immediately, reflecting the administration’s commitment to revitalise Nigeria’s higher education system. The restructuring is expected to enhance leadership, accountability, and institutional excellence.
