Governor Francis Nwifuru has appointed Prof Michael Ugota Awoke as the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University,look replacing the former Vice Chancellor, Prof Chigozie Ogbu, whose tenure has ended.

The governor also recalled four commissioners and the Executive Secretary of the State Primary HealthCare Development Agency, who were suspended last November.

The commissioners are Francis Ori (Housing), Chief Uchenna Igwe (Local Government), Dr. Moses Ekuma (Health and Water Resources), and Hon. Chinedum Nkah.

The governor announced the appointments and the lifting of the suspension of commissioners shortly after a church service at the Government House Chapel and said the newly appointed principal officers will be sworn in on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Gov Nwifuru noted that his appointment followed the recommendations of the Governing Council of the University, saying that Awoke is a Professor of Agricultural Economics and the former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, of the State University.

Prof. Michael Ugota Awoke was a Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission, Ebonyi State, and also held the position of Director, Work and Study Programme (WASP), Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.

Also appointed are Prof. Ike Elechi Ogba as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, and Prof. Michael Ajanwachukwu as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration.

On the recent killings at Amegu Nkalaha Community, the governor disclosed that the preliminary investigation by security agencies showed that the dastardly act was perpetrated by some criminal elements from the community and not herdsmen, as was previously alleged, describing it as unfortunate.

He warned contractors handling government projects to ensure speedy execution or face the wrath of the government.
