Soludo’s Politics of Pettiness: Time to Move On and Govern

Soludo’s Politics of Pettiness: Time to Move On and Govern.

Governor Charles Soludo’s recent actions have once again reminded Anambra people that his personal vendetta against Peter Obi is far from over. From 2010 when he contested against Obi under PDP and lost, to 2013 when he was disqualified from the APGA primaries reportedly without Obi’s endorsement, it’s been clear that Soludo has carried a grudge.

When Obiano, Peter Obi’s political godson, later backed Soludo as his successor, many hoped that bygones would be bygones. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Since assuming office in 2021, Soludo has made it a mission to throw jabs at Obi at every opportunity, even going as far as openly endorsing Tinubu in 2023 and again in 2027,not out of ideology or love for Tinubu, but as a tool to spite Obi.

His recent commissioning of a government house, an edifice with little to no benefit to the common man,was more about political theatrics than public service. He brought the president to Anambra just to throw shade, saying the last presidential visit was in 2012 for a brewery plant, conveniently ignoring the dozens of key infrastructural projects Jonathan commissioned during that visit.

Soludo’s bitterness has blinded him to the real work of governance. His record so far doesn’t match that of his predecessor, Obiano, who built the Anambra airport, three flyovers in Awka, and more, without bragging or dragging anyone.

It’s time for Soludo to stop fighting yesterday’s battles. You’re the governor now. Lead. Build. Unify. Anambra people need a leader, not a petty scorekeeper. Let the past be the past, and focus on delivering real dividends of democracy.

Governance is not revenge. It’s responsibility.
