Guns, Cash Recovered As Gunmen Abandon Their Vehicle After Accident In Anambra (Pics)

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered firearms, suspected stolen cash and other incriminating items after a vehicle conveying suspected armed criminals was involved in an accident while being chased by security operatives in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The recovery, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, followed an offensive security operation carried out by operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Patrol at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16.

 

According to him, the suspects, while attempting to evade arrest, abandoned their operational vehicle after it crashed during a hot pursuit by the patrol team.

 

He revealed that items recovered from the abandoned vehicle include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated single-barrelled rifle, an ash-coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number UWN 680 PE, suspected stolen cash amounting to six hundred and thirty-six thousand, seven hundred naira (₦636,700), as well as other incriminating materials.

 

The PPRO further disclosed that the suspects fled the scene immediately after the accident, prompting an intensive manhunt. He also confirmed that intelligence-led operations have since been stepped up to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The Anambra State Police Command reassures the Ndi Anambra of its commitment to proactive policing, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding lives and property in the state,” he concluded.
