The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Interior, has launched the contactless passport renewal system for Nigerians in European countries.
This development came after the contactless passport system was implemented in Canada.
Now, eligible Nigerians in Europe can renew their passports entirely online from the comfort of their homes and offices.
“This initiative not only reduces the inconvenience of travel and long waiting times but also brings the services of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) directly to your digital doorstep,” said the minister.
He also assured Nigerians that his administration will not relent in upholding transparency and ensuring maximum security in the ministry’s operations.
“The Nigerian diaspora is an integral part of our national fabric, which contributes immensely to our development. Hence, it is our duty to ensure they have access to services that match the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency.”
According to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, this is to ensure that Nigerians in Europe get access to government services with ease regardless of their distance away from the country.
He added that this would eliminate hurdles associated with passport renewal by allowing Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting the Nigerian embassy in their country of residence or travelling to Nigeria for that purpose.
“As with the case in Canada, this innovative system is designed to eliminate the traditional hurdles associated with passport renewals.
