2027: Wike Promised To Hold The PDP For Tinubu, I Was In The Meeting – Makinde

Makinde: I told the President we are just to support you. However, if you have selected the Minister of Power (Adelabu) to help you organize the APC, he doesn’t have the capacity, I told the President. He said No No Seyi, it’s you I want to help me organize the APC in Oyo State, and I said No Sir, I can never help you organize the APC in Oyo State because I am of the PDP. So, if we have a Government of National Unity, a Government of National competence, we would have been in a very different environment right now.

And let me also mention this about Wike…

 

Interviewer: Your friend, Wike.

 

Makinde: Ok, my friend Wike. In my hands here is my first ever contract with Mobil. It’s a contract worth $1m given to Macron (my company), in one year, I made $1m in my pocket. I was 29 and that was in 1997. Wike perhaps at that time just left Law School and then his next job after that was Local Government Chairman and his trajectory went up from there, I don’t beef anybody but the real issue is this: I was in a meeting with President Tinubu and Nyesom Wike. I am saying this this in the open. The President’s Chief of Staff was there and others, when Wike volunteered to hold the PDP for Tinubu against 2027, and I was in shock. When we got up and we’re at the veranda, I asked Wike did we agree to this?

 

I don’t like to talk about people, I don’t like to talk about events, but the real issue is that Wike will like to support the President for 2027, that’s fine, it is within his rights to do that but also some of us that want to ensure that democracy survives in Nigeria, we don’t drift into a one-party State and we want to ensure that PDP survives. He should also allow us also to do our own thing. That is just the issue between Me and Wike and I confided in a mutual friend of ours after that meeting and I kept thinking okay, the President didn’t ask him please do this for me. He was the one that volunteered to do that. And I was telling our mutual friend, maybe he is talking about an errand that the President never sent him, so let’s watch, let’s engage him, let’s see if he will back out and when he didn’t and I said yes, now it’s time to confront him because I told him from that day that I will never be a part of this.

 

And that is why I will not be supporting the President for 2027, Wike can support him, it’s within his rights and also it’s within my rights to decide within the political space whom I will support or what I will do in 2027.
