Gun Battle In Rivers State: Kidnappers Sharing Ransom Killed, Victim Rescued

According to PM News report on 19 December, 2025, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted woman during a gun battle in a forested area off Ozuaha Road in Rivers State.

The suspects were reportedly sharing ransom proceeds and awaiting an additional N1.2 million payment when police operatives stormed their hideout.

The successful operation, which took place at about 11:30 hours, followed credible intelligence received by the command.

This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police.

According to Iringe-Koko, the operation led to the rescue of one abducted female victim and the recovery of several assault rifles from the kidnappers, dealing a major blow to criminal elements operating along the Ozuaha Road axis.

The statement reads: “The Rivers State Police Command, in its sustained efforts to combat kidnapping and armed robbery in the state, has made a remarkable breakthrough.”

It further stated: “In a daring operation, Operatives of the Command attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU) Emohua Annexe, acting on a tip-off, successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, (name withheld) ‘F’, of Omademe Community who was abducted on Friday, December 5, 2025, along Ozuaha Road, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.”

Police sources disclosed that the kidnappers opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them, leading to a gun duel.

During the exchange, two of the suspects were fatally injured, while others reportedly fled into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds.

The rescued victim, who had been held in captivity while her abductors demanded ransom from her family, was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

She was said to be in stable condition and has since been reunited with her family.

Recovered items from the hideout included multiple assault rifles, ammunition, and other materials suspected to have been used in previous criminal operations within the area.

The police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
