American Man Laments US Travel Ban As Nigerian Wife Remains Stranded

Content creator says new immigration proclamation scraps spousal visa exemption, leaving families separated indefinitely

An American travel content creator, Chris, has spoken out about the personal toll of a new United States presidential travel ban that has prevented his Nigerian wife, Adenike, from joining him in the US.

Chris revealed that the couple has been married for more than 18 months and has been navigating the US immigration process for years. According to him, Adenike has been waiting for her immigrant visa interview since May 2024, after completing all required documentation and procedures.

However, a new presidential proclamation has reportedly halted the issuance of immigrant visas to Nigerian spouses, removing a previous exemption that allowed family-based immigration. Chris said the policy change effectively paused their plans, despite their compliance with all legal requirements.

He added that his wife has never visited the United States and has not met most members of his family, even though they have known each other for about five years. Chris stressed that many Americans underestimate how complex, slow, and emotionally draining legal migration processes can be.

Using his online platform, he said he has chosen to speak openly about their situation to shed light on the growing number of families affected by prolonged immigration backlogs and sudden policy shifts.

Chris also appealed to his followers to share his story to raise awareness and draw attention to the struggles of international couples facing separation due to immigration restrictions.
