The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Plateau State has discovered a five-hectare cannabis farm in Magama District, Langtang South Local Government Area, and arrested two suspects. The farm was destroyed on the spot. According to NDLEA State Commander CN Anthony Gotar, this recent bust follows a similar discovery in Mangu last month, indicating a growing trend of cannabis cultivation in Plateau State. The commander urged the public and transport companies to cooperate with NDLEA operatives during searches and remain vigilant about security ¹ ².
In similar operations, the NDLEA has been active in combating drug-related crimes across Nigeria. For instance, in Cross River State, a 30-hectare cannabis farm was destroyed, and 191 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses between January and June 2025. The agency also seized significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis, methamphetamine, and opioids. In Edo State, the NDLEA destroyed two cannabis farms spanning 0.78 hectares and arrested 39 suspected drug traffickers. These efforts highlight the agency’s commitment to eradicating drug cultivation and trafficking nationwide ¹ ³.
